We have begun celebrating the season of Advent here at SSPP with some special events. Fr. John blessed our Advent wreath on Tuesday to remind us of Jesus’ coming. Our Advent Reconciliation service was today. The feast of the Immaculate Conception is next Thursday. All students will be attending Mass. We will hold our Advent rosary on Tuesday, December 13th.
Our students will be singing at the Collinsville Township office across from Ashmann’s Pharmacy this Friday, December 2nd. The students will begin singing at 5:50 p.m. and should be done around 6:20 p.m. Please stand with your students, so they don’t get lost in the shuffle. Mrs. Popovchak-Erickson is asking the students to wear Christmas hats and that they dress appropriately for the weather.
Our annual Christmas program is next Tuesday, December 6th. Our students are working hard to provide us a meaningful evening. Please join us at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. LouAnne will have Scrip & Nuts available for purchase if you are looking for last minute Christmas gifts.
Santa’s Kottage starts in the Cafeteria on December 6th and goes until December 9th.
Every year, the students present Father John and Deacon Jimmy with a Christmas gift. If you would like to contribute, please send to the office in a marked envelope. If money is tight, perhaps your child(ren) can sign a Christmas card for them instead. I’m sure that they will appreciate either. The deadline is Friday, December 16th.
We normally sponsor an Advent project for the students. However, this year the students have been working and praying for the benefit of the parish capital campaign. If you still want to donate something, I am suggesting that you take an ornament off of the Giving Tree in church.
Second quarter grades will be available after school on December 21st. Honor roll certificates will be awarded on January 6th. December Student of the Month will be awarded on January 13th.
LAST DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS BREAK (Wednesday, December 21st)
The students will attend Mass at 8:15 a.m. Afterwards, we will present Father and Deacon Jimmy with their Christmas gifts. The students will return to the classroom and then experience a special Journey to Bethlehem trip around the classrooms. Lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. Christmas parties will start at 11:30 a.m. for grades K-3 and at 11:45 a.m. for grades 4-8. Parties need to conclude at 12:45 p.m. with dismissal at 1 p.m.
LATCHKEY
The SSPP latchkey will be closed after the Preschool party on the morning of December 21st until school resumes on Thursday, January 5th. There will be no latchkey after dismissal on Wednesday, December 21st, so our staff can attend the parish staff Christmas party.
SNOW DAYS
In the event of a school closure due to weather, you will be contacted via School Messenger starting at 6:00 a.m. The Latchkey will also be closed if school is closed. If school is closed after 6:30 a.m. and you have already dropped your child off at latchkey, we will stay open long enough for you to make arrangements for pick-up. Please remember that we are no longer automatically closed if Unit 10 is closed, especially if their closure is due to cold temperatures.
HAPPY ST. NICHOLAS DAY on December 6th!
