October 10, 2014 Principal’s Notes Ss. Peter & Paul School
We have reached the end of the first quarter. Of course, this time is important to evaluate the students’ progress. It is also a good time for you to check your fundraising total. You should be at $50, $75, or $100 in order to evenly divide the requirement.
I have been working toward a diocesan-suggested 40%(parents)-40%(parish)-20%(fundraising) division of school expenses since I was hired. The parish financial report shows that the parish subsidy has finally dropped below the 40% mark. My next goal is to get the parents’ out-of-pocket expenses to the 40% line. The current school budget plans for a further reduction of school expenses. That budget coupled with continued success in fundraising will help us get to that 40% mark.
The parish financial report was in last week’s bulletin. If you didn’t attend church here and would like a copy, please call or message the office. The board and I are very proud of the work we have done to be good stewards of the money invested in our school. We feel that SSPP is a great value that will pay a lifetime of benefits. It takes a sacrifice to send your child(ren) to SSPP, but you get a safe and secure environment that allows each student the chance to grow spiritually, academically, physically, and morally.
The school board has formed a committee to help clarify the school budget, the fundraising initiative, and provide tips to help you with your fundraising. In the meantime, please contact Renee Crowder or me for any questions. If we can’t give you an immediate answer, we will contact the parish finance council to get you an answer to your questions.
Our students attend Mass twice a week and they have been impressive with their singing, reading, and participation. All are welcome to join us on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:15. You will be able to share in the joyfulness of youth as we celebrate our faith. Remember to keep your commitment to take your children to Mass every weekend. It is time well-spent now and in the future.
Please fill out the parent/teacher conference form that will be in this week’s Friday folder and return to the office or homeroom teacher by October 17th. Conferences will be scheduled on a first come basis. Conference times cannot be guaranteed on any forms that are returned after that date. The office will be scheduling conference times. Conferences will be held October 29th, 30th, and 31st.
Basketball season has started and I am grateful for the hard work done by Mr. Winterbottom and Miss Fuller as our athletic directors. Thanks to all of our coaches for giving of their time and talent in the coaching ministry. Please refer first to the athletic handbook for any questions and proper procedure about any concerns. It should be a great season!
Don’t forget that our RED days continue as long as the Cardinals are in the play-offs. Students can wear Cardinal shirts and sweatshirts on the days the Cards have a game. The next days will be Tuesday and Wednesday (October 14th and 15th). Next Thursday would be a Red day if the series is still going.
