Principal’s Notes

Registration for next school year continues. We currently have over 150 students registered for next year. It is a great help to have registration numbers as soon as possible. Our technology requires purchasing licenses and it is very hard to purchase one at a time. There is also significant savings when purchasing in bundles.

If you have not returned the registration due to financial issues, please contact me. If you are certain that your students will not be returning, please indicate that on the form or message me. I do know that there will be an increase in school expenses. Most of that is due to diocesan issued salary and benefit scales. Our teachers and staff are very deserving of the minimal raise that they get each year. Books, technology, and other concrete educational pieces are great tools, but our most valuable resource is our dedicated faculty and staff.

Our annual trivia night was again a great success. Although there was a lot of competition with other events, we were able to nearly match last year’s total by making almost $6000 profit. Thank you to all of the workers, sponsors, and players who made this possible. It was nice to see some new parent workers. Thank you.

We are still in the process of switching phone systems. I would ask that you check your phone contact number to make sure that it is 618-344-5450. You may even want to reenter that number. We have been told that there is a back door number on the old system. Once we switch over completely, it will no longer work.

Asbestos removal on the old parish office and the church basement will begin on April 4th. There will be a dumpster set up for three weeks outside the church door near the intake grate. Although everything that goes into that dumpster is completely safe, we will not allow student pick up or drop off at the east school doors. Everyone will need to use the Morrison Street doors in the morning. The students will be brought by the teachers to that door at dismissal. Just a reminder that you may never park on the north bound side of Morrison Street. It is a bus lane and fire lane. You also should never drop students off on Morrison, even if you are running late.

Our 5th and 8th grade students recently received the results of the annual ACRE test. This test measures the knowledge of our Catholic faith. We had seven 8th graders and six 5th graders score at the Advanced level. In addition, 81% of the 8th grade and 75% of the 5th grade scored Proficient or higher. Each grade scored well above the national average.

You still have two months to complete your individual family fundraising goal. If you are concerned that you won’t make it, please contact the office. We will be glad to give you some suggestions. We need every family to do their part.

The third quarter ends Friday, March 11th. Report cards will be ready on the following Wednesday after noon.

Kudos To
CMC Rotary Club for their recent donation of $125. It will be applied to the cost of Chromebooks being purchased for 4th & 5th graders next year.
