New in the NEWs:
Ss. Peter & Paul School Council has been working to restructure their focus this year incorporating the MAT initiatives and other ideas brought out in the recent January meeting. One major shift is to re-create a Parents & Friends group inviting ALL of our Parents (& Friends) to build a stronger school community through social, spiritual and fundraising activities. The School Council (formerly School Board) will continue to focus on Policy, Faith Formation, Academics and Communication. More information to come next week about Parents & Friends and School Council. Plan to be a part of history in the making!!!

There is a movement in the works to Walk Out Wednesday, March 14 in protest of school violence. That will lose valuable class time. Prayer and kindness may be the turning point for someone sitting next to you. I am sharing the thoughts of one St. Mary’s School ( Edwardsville) Junior High teacher:

This (the walk-out) is not the answer. Walking away from our problems never solves anything. The problems are not about guns, the problem is about how people treat one another. The problem is how people cope with their own hardships. The students should be walking right back in and sitting with that “one kid,” the one who is always alone, the one who is picked on daily, the one who wears yesterday’s clothes, the one who looks differently than I do, the one who no one even notices, the one with their head down, etc. We all know who I am talking about, that one is the one who we need to help, and then we also need to go back in and talk to the bully. There are always reasons a person bullies others, get them help. Our society needs some interpersonal training. I’m not saying students shouldn’t have a voice, more power to them, but their voice is heard from greater distances if they actually did something with their voice, act and help others. Violence is avoidable. Befriend someone new and quit acting like the all mighty, you are not a judge.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE BY YOUR WORDS AND ACTIONS TO OTHERS! BE THAT DIFFERENCE!
