Principal’s Pen March 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

Happy first day of March!  Only 19 days until the first day of spring!  I have seen several robins in the last two weeks, which my mother always said was a sure sign of spring coming.  Hopefully, this weekend of forecasting snow will be the last.

Registration for the coming school year, 2019 – 2020.

Many thanks to those of you that have attended the class parent meetings.  If you did not get to attend your class parent meeting, please attend one of the following on  March 5th or March 13th at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. Babysitting will be provided.

March 5th class meeting is for parents of Grades 1 and 6.

For those of you that attended the meeting, please return your registration form with the registration fee by March 15th.

Auction Dress Down Week –  If you purchased a week dress down event for your son or daughter it will be the week of March 25th – March 29th.  Please remember appropriate clothing must be worn.

Auction Lunch with the Principal will be April 9th and April 16th.  More information on where closer to the date.

Uniform Shorts will not be worn until March 11th because of the cold weather and absenteeism that we have had.

Iowa Basic Testing – Students in grades 3 – 8 are scheduled for the Iowa Basic Tests Testing during the weeks of March 5 – March 15.   It is very important that doctor or dentist appointments not be made during the testing.  If a child misses his or her testing, she or he must make it up and it is very hard on a student to do missed tests after school.  All missed tests will be taken after school

Positive Test-Taking Attitude:  Testing will be done in the mornings.  We will keep the normal special classes.  There will be no subject tests while we are testing.

Five Ways to Be A Test-Taking Superhero:

  1. Power up with a healthy breakfast in the morning of the tests.
  2. Get plenty of sleep the night before the tests.
  3. Be on time for the first test beginning at 8 am.
  4. Fight test stress by taking deep breaths.
  5. Activate positive thoughts and believe in yourself.

You know you can do it!

Lent – There will be No Mass on Tuesday, March 5th but we will attend mass on Ash Wednesday, March 6th.

Adoration:  Students in grades 1,3,5, and 7 will attend Adoration at 1:35 pm on Thursday, March 7th .

Stations of the Cross: Students in grades 2,4,6, and 8 will attend Stations at 1:40 pm on Friday, March 8th.

Father McGivney Open House for students in grades 6, 7, & 8 on March 10th from 1 – 3 pm.  Also their Trivia Night is on March 16th beginning at 7 pm.

Blessings to you as you begin the season of Lent.
