Principal’s Pen November 30, 2018

Dear Parents,
Advent, a time of waiting, of hope, and of anticipation for the coming of the Christ -child. It begins a new Church year. It is four weeks of preparing our hearts and minds to receive Christ, the small child born in Bethlehem. This season is a time to listen to scripture telling us about the coming of Christ. Advent is a time to slow down and think of others. Students will be gathering around our Advent wreath each Monday morning for a short prayer service reminding them about the meaning of each week in Advent. They will be reflecting on a special service that they have chosen to do during this Advent season. Please talk to your son or daughter about the services that they have chosen and how you might be able to help them.

The Madison County State Scholar list was released and Ss Peter and Paul School is proudly represented. Congratulations to the following high school students who were former graduates of SSPP: Emily Bone, Ricky Coca, Shannon Wobbe, Sophia Evans, and Madeline Sullivan.

Christmas Families: As in the past the students and faculty will be sharing with others this Christmas season. We know that as a SSPP family we have been blessed with so many good things. Advent is a time of the year that we thank God for these blessings. The school has 10 families that are in need of help. Please help make this Christmas special for them. The list of what the families need is available at the following link: www.signup.com/go/LDrycKN If you can help make Christmas a little brighter for these families, please pick something off the list. Mark each item with the appropriate family number and send it to school. The classes will be wrapping the presents for the families. Thank you for your generosity!

Advent Vestment: The students were eager to give Father John his Christmas present early. An Advent vestment was his gift and it was given to him after Mass today so that he will be able to wear it during Advent.

A Journey to Bethlehem: SSPP students are ready to share with you the meaning of Christmas through their Christmas Program on Tuesday, December 4th in the school gym at 6:30 pm. Come, listen and see the meaning of Christmas as told and sung by 198 children’s voices. What a wonderful way to begin the season of Advent!

St. Nicholas : Don’t forget the beautiful feast day of St. Nicholas on December 6th. Children, don’t forget to put your shoes outside your bedroom door so St. Nick will see them. Hopefully, St. Nicholas will be visiting SSPP!! Father John will be reading the story The Legend of the Candy Cane to the lower grade students.

Scrip is being sold after the 4:30 Mass on Saturday and after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Please remember to purchase your scrip cards. It is such an easy way to help our school!

Patriot’s Pen: We are proud to announce that out of 90 entries to the VFW’s essay contest on “What does America Mean to Me” our school took all three places!! Pictured left to right below:
First Place: Makenna W. Second Place: Hannah E. Third Place: Matthew F. Their essays are being sent to District. Good luck to them.

It is such a pleasure to be a part of SSPP. The students are so friendly, polite, and willing to help if there is a need. We also have a great faculty and office staff with very giving parents of their time and support. All of these things put together makes a wonderful place to be!!

Blessings to you and your family,
Miss Kirk
